Storm Resources for San Mateo and San Francisco Residents

Dear Friends,

A series of storms continues to pound the Bay Area resulting in power outages, downed trees, mudslides and flash floods. Local, state and the federal government are combining their resources to keep residents and communities as safe as possible. Even though I am in Washington DC, I am keeping a close eye on the conditions at home and am in contact with local elected officials. I am also working with my Congressional colleagues to ensure that FEMA is giving this emergency adequate attention.

Please remember that there are many resources available to you. You can sign up for San Mateo County emergency alerts here and for San Francisco alerts here. San Mateo County residents can call 211 if they need non-emergency storm related assistance. You can also find information about shelters on the county’s website. The Red Cross is operating a 24-hour shelter at the San Mateo County Event Center. You can also access non-congregate shelters at the following locations:

  • Hilton Garden Inn, 2000 Bridgepointe Circle, San Mateo, CA 94404
  • Quality Inn, HMB, 2930 Cabrillo Hwy N, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019
  • Budget Inn, RWC, 2526 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94061

There are also important steps you can take to keep yourself and your family safe. Most importantly, please listen to local emergency notifications. They can save your life. Sadly, 17 people in California have already died as a result of these storms. Let’s all help our emergency responders get through this crisis.

  • Follow local emergency response notifications
  • Heed evacuation notifications immediately
  • Have a go bag ready in case of an evacuation order
  • Do not drive, walk or swim through flooded areas
  • Have a full tank of gas or fully charged car
  • Stock up on sandbags if your property is prone to flooding
  • If you see a downed power line, call 911, then call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000
  • Monitor weather forecasts and alerts
  • Have a battery-powered AM/FM radio to listen to emergency updates and weather forecasts
  • Make sure you have non-perishable emergency supplies

Stay safe! If my staff and I can be of assistance, please call my district office at (650) 342-0300.
Sincerely,

Kevin Mullin
Member of Congress
