The United States owes a debt of gratitude to our veterans, many of whom have risked their lives in service of our country. Veterans should never have to struggle to find housing or appropriate medical care. That’s why I am pushing for robust funding and strong oversight for the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure that the federal government takes care of the brave Americans who put their lives on the line to protect our country.
I introduced the Filipino Veterans Fairness Act, first authored by my predecessor, former-Rep. Jackie Speier, which would restore veterans benefits to Filipino veterans who bravely fought under U.S. command in World War II, as well as their survivors.
I am a proud cosponsor of H.R.1282, the Major Richard Star Act, which would allow combat-disabled veterans to receive their full retirement pay and disability compensation concurrently, benefiting over 50,000 medically retired veterans whose retirement funds are currently offset by disability compensation. I also cosponsored H.R.3303, the Maternal Health for Veterans Act, which would strengthen oversight over the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) maternal health care programs and increase funding to ensure our veterans have the maternal health care they deserve.
