Today, Rep. Kevin Mullin, whose California Congressional District 15 includes the San Francisco International Airport (SFO), released the following statement on back pay owed by the private company Covenant Aviation Security to security screening employees SFO:
“Union employees are the backbone of our workforce and we all benefit when the rights of working families are respected. SFO Airport is the largest airport in the nation where security screening services are provided by private employees, under a TSA pilot program. Airport security screeners are absolutely essential to keeping our communities safe, and they too deserve protection.
When Congress passed the TSA screener pay equity at the end of 2022, it intended for the approved pay increase to go to all airport security screeners, regardless of whether they’re employed directly by TSA or through a contractor. Denying the hard-working screeners at SFO who help keep our skies safe the increase in wages they rightfully deserve is unacceptable.”
