I strongly support the latest ceasefire deal reached by Israel and Hamas; we are long overdue for an end to the horrific conflict that has killed far too many innocent civilians, torn families apart, and destabilized the Middle East.
Thanks to American diplomacy efforts and the Biden Administration’s leadership, the agreement will finally allow hostages to be reunited with their loved ones, and surge desperately-needed humanitarian aid, food, and medical care to innocent Palestinian civilians suffering in Gaza.
It’s been a painful 15 months since Hamas’ shocking Oct. 7 attacks against Israel and kidnapping of the hostages, including Americans. My hope is this multi-phased agreement will also facilitate important commitments from the international community to help rebuild schools, homes, and hospitals in war-torn Gaza. The U.S. must take an active approach to help stabilize the region and start building the groundwork for a future two-state structure – which while extremely difficult to achieve, is the only feasible path forward toward durable peace.
