Rep. Mullin Votes NO On Republican Spending Bill

I am committed to ensuring that our federal budget prioritizes the needs of the people— everyday Americans who rely on essential government services. that keep our communities safe, healthy, and thriving.

I was proud to stand unified with my Democratic colleagues yesterday to vote NO on the Republican spending bill. My House Democratic colleagues and I are ready to support a common sense, bipartisan budget. But Republicans’ extreme budget cuts would be devastating for working families in my district and across the country.

This partisan funding bill cuts affordable housing programs, that will result in over 32,000 Americans – veterans, domestic violence survivors, seniors, and people with disabilities – losing their homes. It slashes $23 billion in funding for Veterans, such as care for those exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. The bill also proposes cutting critical healthcare services for children and seniors.

The Republican rip off spending bill would also cut vital funding for Community Projects in my district and across the country.  These projects are critical investments in the infrastructure, education, and economic development of our communities. Without these funds, vital projects across our district will be delayed or halted.

Additionally, the spending bill hands over Congress’s constitutional spending authority to the executive branch, giving the White House a slush fund that Trump can use to reward his wealthy donors, like unelected billionaire Elon Musk. In other words, it gives the Trump Administration a blank check to spend government funds with little to no direction from Congress.

I will continue to fight for a budget that supports our communities, strengthens our economy, and ensures that federal funds are spent wisely on programs that benefit all Americans.
