Washington, D.C. – Congressman Kevin Mullin (CA-15) issued the following statement on the ousting of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House:
“Earlier today the House of Representatives voted to remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his role as Speaker of the House. This serious and sober action was a first for the House and for a sitting Speaker. Sadly, the outcome of this vote is a continuation of unprecedented internal dysfunction from the Republican Majority,” Mullin said. “Due to extreme MAGA Republicans, this Majority, and this Speaker, have created a House of political brinkmanship instead of one of cooperation, bipartisanship, and responsible governance. Even in this chaotic environment, I will continue serve my constituents and address the needs of my district. My priority, in addition to serving the needs of my constituents, will always be to preserve and protect our democracy even if it means we have to remove a Speaker who has sown chaos, polarization, and distrust.”
