Rep. Mullin’s Statement on Speakership Stalemate’s Impact on California Storm Response

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Kevin Mullin (CA-15), issued the following statement regarding the speakership stalemate and its impact on the storm currently hitting California.

“In spite of the double whammy of storms pounding the Bay Area and the delay in electing a Speaker of the House, my District and Capitol staff are working hard for the people of the 15th Congressional District. They are answering phones and transitioning existing casework from Congresswoman Speier’s office to my office. Staff is also monitoring the storm conditions and keeping me informed on a regular basis as I remain in the Capitol with my colleagues until we elect a new Speaker.

The Peninsula and San Francisco are being significantly impacted by relentless storms. While there hasn’t been a federal emergency declaration, Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for the State of California and San Mateo County has declared a local state of emergency. It’s important to note that local and state officials are coordinating their response and are in charge of distributing resources. Local jurisdictions are doing a great job of making sandbags available, opening evacuation centers and encouraging the use of 2-1-1 for reporting non-emergency issues and obtaining information on where to obtain resources. I want to reassure my constituents that I am here for them, following developments, and working with my local colleagues.”
